We are thrilled that The Cowshed was crowned ‘Best Transformation’ in the prestigious British Homes Awards held in a ceremony in London. The British Homes Awards is a national award program celebrating exceptional design, focusing on what makes a house a home.

The judges recognised the conservation and architectural  ambitions of the project,

concluding that “This project demonstrates a successful blend of thoughtful conservation and modern design”.

The feedback from the expert judging panel was overwhelmingly positive:

“The architects have found a way to celebrate the history of the site and the unique qualities of the existing building through a series of elegantly realised interventions. The rigour undertaken in the conservation-led approach has resulted in a project that not only retains a high proportion of the existing fabric but also addresses environmental challenges through careful re-use of existing structural elements. A true triumph”

“It is an excellent example of bringing a building back to life with a change of use that reinvigorates a dilapidated heritage structure”

“The Cowshed is an elegant scheme in which the old and new elements are clearly visible.”

“A sensitive and collaborative approach to a building that most would have walked from or demolished.”

It is fantastic to be recognised for a National Level Award when the shortlist consisted of several acclaimed London-based practices. This award is a testament to everyone that was involved with the project from the design team and supportive conservation officer, to the contractor, Matford Construction and of course the client who believed in the vision, the project was a real team effort.
