Arts & Crafts House
An arts & crafts house in the cotswolds, extended with a striking tiled pavilion, to create a light and airy family home.
A 1950s cotswolds stone house extended with a contemporary tiled pavilion, inspired by the Arts & Crafts heritage in Chipping Campden.
Celebrating the rich traditional crafts heritage of the cotswolds town, this contemporary addition features a tiled hipped roof, clad in handmade tiles folding down the eaves, to create a striking contrast to the original house. The bespoke tiles on the pavilion were selected to reference historic roofs of the vernacular agricultural buildings found throughout the region.
Internally, the pavilion has a vaulted ceiling with lighting cove detail, which creates a dramatic and unexpected kitchen space with corner glazing providing views out towards the garden.
The unique and innovative diamond-shaped casement windows in the triangular dormers, were developed in close collaboration with the manufacturers, create framed views of the town beyond.
The addition provides a pleasing contrast with the existing house and a moment of unexpected architectural surprise in its suburban context.
