The Park

Design storey were commissioned to design four separate additions to a large contemporary house on a generous plot in the Park, a prestigious residential area in the Cheltenham Conservation Area. We were approached by the client to explore innovative, small scale additions to increase the ‘liveability’ of the house and make better use of the space while complementing and enhancing the existing building. The additions comprise of a carport, ‘super dormer’, yoga pavilion and bay window as well as internal alterations incorporating bespoke joinery.

Our approach focuses on giving the new additions a distinct identity, using an appropriate and sympathetic material palette, while also ensuring that they were sensitive to the existing house in terms of form and mass.  The material palette comprises of copper cladding and exposed timber structures which evoke a ‘west coast modern’ feel which seemed appropriate in the context of this dwelling.
