Bespoke Residential Interior
The Koret building is an early 2oth century fabric warehouse located in the Gastown area of Vancouver. The building is constructed from large first growth Douglas Fir posts and beams that were supplied by the local sawmill on East Hastings Street. The external masonry exterior is typical of North American architecture of this era and external fire-escapes give the building a ‘New York Street’ feel.
Design Storey designed the interiors of a large studio apartment in the building with the intention of retaining its open loft-style feel. Furniture was intended to float and be moveable enhancing the feeling of openness. The main seating area was conceived as a series of cubes that could be easily reconfigured to address the different uses of the loft: lounging, reading and entertaining.
